Moving Targets Hard Click or tap the target the instant it appears

Quick Draw Archer

Quick Draw Archer is the reaction test of the library. A single target appears somewhere on the range, stays for about seven tenths of a second, and vanishes. You get three failures. The game tracks your average reaction time and shows it alongside your score, which is often the more interesting number.

About Quick Draw Archer

Measured reaction, not estimated

The game timestamps the moment each target becomes visible and the moment your input lands, and reports the average across the run in milliseconds. That includes your cursor travel, so it is not a laboratory reaction figure - it is the practical time from 'something appeared' to 'I hit it'.

Most players land somewhere between 400 and 700 milliseconds. Getting below 350 consistently requires resting the cursor centrally and using peripheral vision rather than scanning.

The shrinking window

The exposure window starts at 0.7 seconds and contracts by a small amount every five successful hits, down to a floor of 0.32 seconds. It never goes below that, because past a certain point the game would be measuring input latency rather than skill.

Targets also get smaller and appear further from the centre as the run progresses, which increases cursor travel at exactly the moment you have least time for it.

Three lives

A life is lost when a target expires untouched. Clicking empty space does not cost a life but does break the combo, so panic-firing at where you expect a target to appear is a losing strategy.

The combo here is unusually valuable because per-target scores are small. Long clean streaks are the only way to a high total.

How to play

  1. Watch the whole play area, not one spot.
  2. A target appears - click or tap it before it disappears.
  3. Missed targets cost a life. You have three.
  4. The exposure window shrinks as you succeed.
  5. Your average reaction time is shown at the end.

Tips

  • Park the cursor near the centre of the field between targets to minimise travel.
  • Look through the screen rather than at any one point - peripheral detection is faster than searching.
  • Do not pre-click. Empty space costs your combo and gains nothing.
  • Blink between targets, not during them. It sounds trivial; it costs several runs a session.
  • On mobile, rest your thumb just off the centre of the play area rather than at the edge.

Common mistakes

  • Staring at the last place a target appeared.
  • Trying to move the cursor and click in one motion, which overshoots.
  • Panicking after losing a life and pre-firing on the next spawn.
  • Ignoring the reaction readout, which tells you whether the problem is detection or travel.

Features

  • Measured average reaction time in milliseconds
  • Exposure window contracting from 0.7s to 0.32s
  • Three lives, lost only to expired targets
  • Combo scoring that rewards long clean streaks
  • Local best score and fastest average reaction

Quick Draw Archer - questions

What counts as a good reaction time here?

Between 400 and 700 milliseconds is typical because the figure includes cursor travel. Consistently under 350 is genuinely fast.

Does clicking empty space cost a life?

No, but it breaks your combo, which in this game is where most of the score comes from.

How short does the window get?

It bottoms out at 0.32 seconds. Below that the game would mostly be measuring hardware latency rather than the player.

Is this the same as Archer Rush?

No. Archer Rush is about handling several targets at once with generous timers; this is a single target with a very short one.
